Contents & methods
During the Summer School, participants will engage with academic researchers, industry, and government experts to learn about sustainable mobility solutions for car-dependent regions. The summer school programme is oriented towards engaging participants in collaborative teamwork, drawing inspiration from real-world business cases provided by industry partners and public organizations.
There will be two tailor-made tracks: one for undergraduate students and one for professionals, with dedicated team work projects to be carried out during the summer work. This ensures that the learning needs of each group are met.
Through various learning activities, such as lectures, panel discussions, and teamwork, participants experience personalized learning while encouraging peer-to-peer exchanges. At the end of the programme, participants present their findings and ideas to a jury, receiving feedback, advice, and resources for further career development.
The main topics that will be covered are:
- Introduction to urban mobility and car-dependence;
- Relationships with urban form and road design;
- Cycling and active travel;
- Technological innovation and role of start-ups in urban mobility;
- The transition to an electric mobility system;
- Shared mobility and Mobility as a Service (MaaS) solutions;
- Urban delivery and logistics;
- Building a career in innovative and sustainable urban mobility, transport planning, and data science.
All lecture and classroom materials will be provided, and upon successful completion, you will receive a certificate of participation signed by the EIT Urban Mobility Master School.

The summer school will take place in the historic city of Bari, Italy, from September 4 to September 12, 2025.
The summer school will be held in the Biblioteca De Gemmis, housed in the impressive Convent of Santa Teresa dei Maschi. Located in the centre of Bari, this venue offers an ideal environment to stimulate exciting discussions and facilitate collaborative learning experiences.

Fees
The registration fees cover not only the participation in the programme, but also eight nights of accommodation, most meals, social activities, and much more. Registration options without accommodation are also possible. Participants remain responsible for covering their own travel cost to/from the City of Bari, Italy, where the Summer School is held.

Scholarship opportunities
Are you a bachelor's student? We are happy to announce that a limited number of partial scholarships are available to reduce the registration fees for selected bachelor’s students from EU and low/medium income countries. A total of 5 partial scholarships of EUR 300 and 10 partial scholarships of EUR 150 are available. To be considered for a partial scholarship, please make sure to apply as soon as possible, and mention your interest in the motivation letter.
How to apply
To apply for the summer school, please complete this form including the requested attachments - your CV and a short motivation letter explaining your interest in participating in the programme. The deadline for applications is August 17, 2025, or until the maximum capacity is reached. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so the sooner you apply, the higher your chance of securing a spot!

Note 1: Participants requiring a Schengen visa to travel to the EU should apply no later than June 30, 2025.
Note 2: For applications without accommodation, the registration deadline is more flexible, and late applicants could be still admitted if space in the summer school is still available.

Q: For which dates is accommodation provided? When is the check-in and check-out?
Eight nights of accommodation in Bari are included in the registration fees for the summer school. Participants will check in at the hotel on Thursday, September 4 and check out on Friday, September 12.
Q: Can I request an extra night of accommodation before or after the programme
Yes, you can request extra nights of accommodation. However, this is subject to availability, and additional costs may apply. Please contact us before July 31 to make arrangements.

Social activities
Saturday - Polignano a MareParticipants will enjoy a visit to Polignano a Mare. Set on white cliffs above the Adriatic Sea, it is one of the most beautiful towns in Puglia. Its historic centre features narrow streets that lead to stunning sea views, hidden terraces, and a vibrant cultural scene. Participants will enjoy a half day of relaxation and swimming at a picturesque beach, famous for its crystal-clear waters. In the afternoon, they will explore the town’s charming alleys, discover fascinating sea caves, and delight in its lively atmosphere. The visit concludes with a traditional Italian aperitivo at sunset in the old town, offering breathtaking coastal views, the perfect way to soak in the beauty of this iconic seaside town.
Participants will enjoy a visit to Castel del Monte, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a unique example of medieval architecture in Puglia. Built in the 13th century by Emperor Frederick II, this castle is known for its unusual octagonal shape and mix of Romanesque and Gothic styles. Standing on a hill in the Alta Murgia National Park, it offers great views of the countryside. Its simple yet detailed design and interesting history make it a special place to explore and enjoy.
Participants will also discover the Parco Nazionale Alta Murgia, a large protected area with open fields, stunning hills, and interesting rock formations. The park is great for nature lovers, with easy trails for walking, opportunities to see birds, and a variety of plants and animals. It also has old archaeological sites and traditional stone buildings that show the region’s history, and it is extending its offering of cycling trails for visitors that want to explore it in an environmental-friendly way.
On Monday afternoon, participants will have the choice between walk and bike tours of the city of Bari, which will provide a great opportunity to explore the city's transport infrastructure and discuss mobility challenges in their real-world context.
