Dr. Veronique Van Acker

Veronique Van Acker (°1981, Gent) is research assistant at the Geography Department of Ghent University. She holds Master's degrees in Geography (Ghent University) and Spatial Planning (Ghent University). Her PhD research deals with the relation between travel behaviour and the built environment, and the use of Structural Equation Models in travel behaviour research.

Veronique's research deals with spatial and social variations in travel behaviour. The aim is to hereby incorporate lifestyles and attitudes into travel behaviour-land use interaction research. Answering this query involves combining and linking theories stemming from transport geography and social psychology. Using key-variables from these theories, a conceptual model for travel behaviour was developed in the first phase of this doctoral research. In a second phase of this doctoral research, the conceptual model is put into practice, by estimating various types of structural equation models (SEM).
