Research
3D data acquisition
In the discipline of Topography several techniques are being studied to allow the measuring of characteristic
points of a relatively small portion of the earth's surface. In the field of Geodesy the shape and dimensions of the earth
are calculated and studied. Remote sensing, mapping of aerial photo's and image processing are being used to edit and interpret a.o. satellite images
by means of digital image analysis and digital interpretation.

Cartography and GIS
A substantial part of the Geography consists of the making and using of maps and the transposing of geographical issues into models.
Research disciplines and techniques used are Cartography and Spatial Analysis.
GIS or Geographical Information Systems is a rather young technology that tries to manage, analyse and interpret spatial data by means of a computer. It has created huge possiblities in the field of Cartography, spatial analysis and simulations for use in fundamental and applied Geography.

Landscape research
Landscape Research focuses on the landscape appearances of our society on the one hand and the environmental perception and experience of
man inside it on the other hand. The distinguishing between several types of landscapes, the determination of diversity and identity
of each landscape and its orgins are some of the important aspects that deliver immediate results, ready for use in environmental planning
and reporting.

Physical geography
The analytical research in Physical Geography looks at the relief, climate types, surface water and dispersal of soil, plants and animals.
The main fields of study are Geomorphology, Hydrogeography and Climatology, all integrated in the study of Quaternary. Geology, Soil Science and Ecology
are other tightly related research domains.
The synthetic research tries to manage the physical environments as a whole. Observation, description, explanation and mapping are the main activities, with the quantitative approach becoming more important.

Social and economic geography
The human or social and economic geography involve the study of the spreading of people on the earth's surface and the way they use
the physical environment, how they organise themselves and move around the globe.
