Stephanie Vervaet
Stephanie Vervaet (°1983, Lokeren) is research assistant at the Geography Department of Ghent University. She holds a Master's degree in Geography (Ghent University) and a teacher training certificate (Ghent University).
Her PhD research deals with the conceptual relations between global production network and world city network research. Within this framework focus is on the diamond world. The diamond sector is known for its unusual business practices and is nowadays subject to far-reaching consequences due to globalisation. Antwerp and its Jewish community experience this turbulent period as a challenge to their dominance. The scope of global production network is used to elaborate these leading positions and to gain an insight into the future of Antwerp as diamond centre.
