Facilities
Classrooms
Most of the courses (theory and practicals) within the Geography course are taught in building S8, campus 'De Sterre'
(courses taught by members of the department of Geography as well as staff from other departments). The campus is
easy to
find with train, tram and bus), and is close to the city centre. There is also a lot of parking space on the campus.
Topographic equipment
Practicals Topography are mostly taught in building S8 on the campus 'De Sterre', but at given times also
on location 'in the field' (e.g. as part of the course Topometrics, last years always on the 'Kemmelberg'),
but also in the calibration laboratory. In all of these practicals, high quality equipment like GPS, total stations,... are intensively used.
Library facilities
Library facilities consist of a thematic library (with books, journals, atlasses, dissertations,... within the domain of 'earth sciences') on the one hand
and a map library with a diverse collection of historically unique and valuable maps on the other hand.
Students and researchers can also use a multitude of (analogue and digital) libraries within the faculty of Sciences and Ghent University, all
linked to the library of the department.
Computer facilities
The department has established a collaboration with central university departments and the faculty of Sciences to ensure
the long term availability of recent PC's and software for practicals and individual study. This collaboration consists of PC room
Gerardus Mercator (available for all UGent students and staff). A smaller PC room with computers of the same configuration
is also at the students' disposal.
